I have often wondered, "Why do those devoted to Silence speak so much about it?" This for many years appeared a contradiction to me, and a contradiction between what I taught but kept talking about - as in this writing-, kept teaching in words and more words.

Now, reflecting on this, possibly I see some reason behind persons devoted to Silence speaking so much about It.

First, I have come to see that Silence is not silence. Silence is not quietness; Silence is not not speaking. Silence itself has no opposite, like sound or noise. Silence is not an absence of anyone or anything. Silence is Presence, equally in quietness or its opposites.

Second, Silence Itself, as a Presence, not merely an absence, shares Itself through those devoted to Silence. Silence, in some mysterious way, expresses Itself, and this expression is Love expressing, is Loving.

Devotion to Silence leads to the sense of Silence in all states, as their origin, permeation, and end - even states that appear contradictory to Silence. Loving is Silence as Presence, giving Itself. Silence seeks to make Itself known, for Silence is our Source, alive, inspirational, and always-present.

Silence makes Itself known, as Divine Presence, and possibly most so, through those who have given themselves to Grace. They desire to be a means in word and act of Its Presence, in fidelity through their presences. Seeing and hearing the Silence in and through everyone and everything, is their greatest joy.
